Just over a week after Google’s spectacular demonstration of its Project Glass headset at Google I/O, Japanese camera maker
olympus收購olympus is jumping back into the wearable computing game, announcing a new prototype of a glasses-mounted heads-up display. Dubbed MEG4.0, the display features Bluetooth connectivity for interfacing with smartphones and uses
olympus收購olympus’ own “proprietary optical technology” to maximize the visibility of the outside world. Unlike Project Glass, however,
olympus收購olympus’ device doesn’t appear to include a camera — an odd choice for a company built on imaging products.
According to the Japanese press release for the MEG4.0, the device features a QVGA (320 x 240) display and up to eight hours of battery life in “intermittent display” mode, switching on for approximately 15 seconds every three minutes. It also contains a built-in accelerometer, allowing it to detect the position of the user’s head and react accordingly.
This is not the first time that
olympus收購olympus has experimented with head-mounted displays — the company has been working on prototypes since at least 2005. But the timing is certainly significant, coming just as the technology finally seems set to make it to consumers (or at least Google developers) at sub-astronomical prices.

OM-1 使用 2000 萬畫素的堆疊背照式 Live MOS 感光元件，搭配全新 TruePic X 影像處理器，宣稱比前一代快 3 倍，並能使 ISO 感光度提高到 ISO 25,600、最大擴展到 ISO 102,400。至於 M43 強項的防震，除了本身的五軸系統，現在光機身就能達到 7 級的快門補償。
對焦系統創下歷代創舉，有多達 1053 點全十字型對焦系統，搭配「AI 智慧偵測自動對焦系統」，可以鎖定方程式賽車、飛機、直升機、火車和鳥類，並還加入了動物（狗和貓）識別模式，無論主體在畫面中的哪個位置，都能持續追焦。OM-1 支援連續自動對焦（C-AF）和單點自動對焦（S-AF）模式，可以鎖定駕駛員的頭盔、鳥類與動物的眼睛。
確保自動對焦／自動曝光追焦下，OM-1 本次的連拍速度來到 50fps，鎖定時可以提升至 120 fps。全新的 EVF 電子觀景窗則有約 576 萬畫素、0.83 倍的放大倍率、0.005 秒的顯示延遲和 120 fps 刷新率。除了保有光學光景窗的特性，也加入了數位的優勢，例如在低光場景時的檢查曝光。
錄影支援 4K 60p 高畫質影片，以及最高 240p fps 慢動作影片，還支持 H.264、H.265。
OM SYSTEM OM-1 售價為 27 萬日圓（約 6.6 萬元），台灣上市時間與價格仍待官方發表。
